Balance /baləns/: noun
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Definition: An elusive, seemingly impossible task in our lives
[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][image_with_animation image_url=”5074″ alignment=”center” animation=”Fade In” img_link_target=”_self”][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]“Finding that centerpoint where we are giving everything sufficient amounts of attention and effort to sustain happiness and equanimity is difficult even for the best of us. Then we throw the holidays on top of it. Endless tasks. Expectations and to-do lists that never seem to get done… Never fear, it IS possible to find balance and have time with friends, family and your health throughout the holiday season.” – TruFusion Instructor Whitney Koch Owens
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]1. Start family traditions
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Bringing fitness into your new family traditions makes everyone healthy, wealthy, and wise! Well, probably not wealthy and wise but definitely healthy. Start the tradition of a holiday hike. Snowshoe to a warming hut on Christmas Eve. Bike around the neighborhood to check out the lights. Fitness is fun with whole fam! [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]2. Ask for help
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Have your family help you with holiday tasks. Wrap presents with your sister or cook the big feast with your dad. Doubling down to accomplish necessary tasks while spending quality time with a loved one will free up some “me” time for fitness.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]3. Say “No”
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]“Sure, you may be invited to 30 different holiday parties, but you don’t have to attend each one,” said Whitney. “Determine the activities and traditions that fuel your connections with others and allow you to genuinely connect with the people you care about and love.” Forget the rest.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]4. Stick to the plan
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Once you’ve chosen which events you’d like to attend, make a plan and stick to it. If you’re shopping with your sister at 4, be sure to leave that potluck by 330. Don’t stay out all night at that holiday party when you have family breakfast the next morning. By planning ahead, you avoid last minute decisions that make you miss rare family time.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]5. Sharing is caring
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Instead of buying the latest gadget that will be obsolete in a six months, give your family the gift of memories (that happen to include fitness)! Always wanted to try snowboarding? Take your cousin to the mountain for a day on the slopes. Buy your brother a week of TruFusion classes and bring him to Barefoot Bootcamp. We’ll bet he’ll get a kick out of it. Your sister? She’ll love cycle! [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]6. It’s okay to fly solo
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]If you go to Down N’ Dirty every Wednesday then don’t change it because your family is in town. You’ll only be gone an hour, but it might be the only time you have this week to workout. It might even be the only alone time you get this week.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]7. Workout at home
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]If you can’t sneak away for a class, set aside twenty minutes and knock out a quick at-home workout. Doing one twenty minute workout a day won’t take you away from too much family but will make sure you’re still looking sexy once New Years Eve rolls around.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]8. Remember that you’re bae
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]You come before all else. Whitney said, “Place your own health and needs above all others. The old saying in airplanes is true, put your mask on before trying to assist someone else with theirs. Listen to your body. Does it need more sleep? Some quiet and meditation? Physical activity and a workout? Give your body what it needs first to be able to then be present with others.”Instructor Chidimma Ozor said, “On Sunday, I woke up with about five different outings planned, and by 5 p.m. I realized I had been in my bed most of the day engaging in self-care, which is just what I needed.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1”][vc_column_text]
Now quit reading this and go enjoy some time with your family! Happy balancing, TruTribe!
