At TruFusion, we’re all about balancing working hard and having fun, so this National Tequila Day, we’re reaching for the salt and lime and hoping these impressive health benefits are true! Read on for more about what we learned and at the end, you’ll find two healthy tequila libation recipes by TruFusion Cycle Instructor and healthy eats blogger Stevi Portz, AKA @stayfitstevi, you can make to celebrate!
Balance Digestion with Tequila
Nothing like a shot of tequila right before a big meal, right? Similar to an aperitif, tequila induces appetite and metabolism. If you’re more of a post-meal tequila drinker, tequila aids with digestion – we’ll be testing this theory on Taco Tuesday. Purely for health research, of course.
Tequila May Lower Cholesterol & Blood Sugar
While tequila increases your likelihood to sing karaoke, it may decrease cholesterol and blood sugar. A study from the American Chemical Society suggests that tequila has the ability to lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol, making it a potential healthier choice of alcohol.
Tequila May Act as a Probiotic
Because of the fructans in tequila, it contains probiotics similar to those found in yogurt and fermented foods like sauerkraut. An appropriate amount of probiotics balance the healthy bacteria in our intestines for improved overall health and immune function. Ready to pour yourself a glass?
